I so know I should plan meals for the week. But I seem to struggle. Any tips?
Start by making a list of your family’s favourite meals. Keep it simple in the beginning and only plan dinner for five nights. One night you could eat out (either at a restaurant or with friends / family) and the other night you could eat leftovers. Do you want to add in a new recipe every week to your menu or just choose the meals you know and love for now until you have more practice at menu planning?
You can keep your menu the same each week with themes. Such as Monday is Mexican night, Tuesday is Italian, Friday is homemade pizza etc. Or you can do Monday is crockpot, Tuesday is pizza, Sunday is a big roast dinner. Also plan around your week. Do you need a quick meal on Wednesdays because you have a child who has volleyball practice that night?
Check your local flyers to see what’s on sale at the grocery store that week. Then do an inventory of your pantry and freezer. Write out a grocery list adding in the ingredients you need to make up the meals you want for that week.
Don’t forget breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Keep it simple. Maybe eat oatmeal or waffles every morning for breakfast, leftovers or sandwiches for lunch and fruit, yogurt, hardboiled eggs or smoothies for snacks.
I hope this helps Mary!
I really like the sound of your menu for this week – I love cooking but sometimes I find it hard to come up with anything different and go back to my trusted favourites because I know the kids will it it.
