20 Goals for 2020 | Update 1

February 7, 2020 by Debbie 2 Comments

I have set 20 goals to work through over the entire year. This is my progress so far.

Pen on notebook with text overlay 20 Goals for 2020 update #1

Personal

Goal 1. Lose 15 pounds. I am down two pounds. I have been trying to drink more water during the day and be more intentional with eating healthier foods. I have to work on my afternoon snack. I have a slump mid-afternoon and want junk food and/or sugar. I am trying to plan ahead so I have a snack with protein, that is quick to munch on, such as my vanilla and cranberry protein balls or Greek yogurt with blueberries.

Goal 2. Walk 1,000 miles. According to my FitBit, I have walked 89.38 miles since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, I have not walked as much in the last week as I wanted to. I have hurt my foot, but it is recovering and I should be up to my usual daily step count soon.

Goal 3. Volunteer in my community. One of my neighbours has broken her foot and I offered to do any grocery shopping for her. I will also be volunteering at the girls’ school at the end of February.

Goal 4. Incorporate self-care into every day. I have been re-reading Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. During the day I have been listening to classical music and Miss C. and I have been practicing our (poorly executed) yoga moves. I am sure it will become easier to do the stretches as we practice more.

Goal 5. Practice kindness. I have been trying to remind myself to use gentle words with my children. This has not always gone to plan, but I am becoming more aware of thinking before I speak.

Family

Goal 1. Create 2019 memory/photo books for my girls. Not started yet.

Goal 2. Spend one-on-one time with the girls each week doing something they enjoy. I have not gone on any dates with my girls, but Miss C. and I have been practicing yoga together and playing board games. Both girls and I have also been reading together and talking one-on-one at their bedtimes.

Goal 3. Schedule one date a quarter with my husband (outing) and weekly at-home dates. My husband and I went for a lunch date yesterday at a local Vietnamese restaurant. I have to be more intentional about planning dates, so we can talk and spend time together without the girls.

Goal 4. Plan a vacation together. Not started yet.

Goal 5. Have a family date once a month. We took a trip in January to our local stores, so the girls could spend some of their Christmas money. A portion goes in their savings account in the bank, and the other is for whatever they would like (with parental approval!). We have also enjoyed re-watching the Back To The Future movie series.

Homemaking

Goal 1. Declutter my basement. Not started yet.

Goal 2. Take photos for our household inventory (for insurance purposes and our records). Not started yet.

Goal 3. Organize our digital photos. I have started organizing our most recent photos.

Goal 4. Keep to a regular housecleaning routine. I do have a weekly schedule and try to stick to it. But life happens.

Goal 5. Update my recipes. Not started yet.

Blogging

Goal 1. Post on a regular basis. I have been following my editorial calendar and so far it is working well.

Goal 2. Update to a new theme. I have started researching themes to see which features they have and what I can do with them.

Goal 3. Leave 5 comments a week on other blogs. I have not done well with this. So far, I have left a comment on one blog. I will be spending time catching up with this goal.

Goal 4. Complete the blogging course I purchased a few years ago. I have slowly been working my way through the lessons. The next part of the course relates to goal 2 and how I want my blog to look and function.

Goal 5. Build a community. I have been thinking about how I would like to do this and have some ideas, but I need to have a brainstorming session and plan out on paper what this would actually look like.

How are you doing with your 2020 goals?

Let me know in the comments.
