5 Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

March 5, 2014 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Apple cider vinegar is a fermented product made from crushed and aged apples. The healthiest apple cider vinegar contains the “mother”, which is bacteria with many health benefits. My favourite kind is Bragg’s.

Here are five health benefits of apple cider vinegar.

1. Soothes a sore throat. Prevent an infection by mixing 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup warm water and gargle every hour or so.

2. An aid to weight loss. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar suppresses your appetite, increases your metabolism and reduces water retention.

3. Helps clear nasal congestion. Apple cider vinegar contains potassium which can help decrease mucus production. It also contains acetic acid which prevents bacteria growth. Try drinking a glass of warm or cold water mixed with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a few times a day.

4. Boosts energy. Apple cider vinegar combats lactic acid build up in the body, helping prevent fatigue. Add a tablespoon to a glass of water or juice.

5. Reduces acid reflux and heartburn. Research shows that acid reflux and indigestion is caused by too little acid being produced to properly digest the food you have eaten. Apple cider vinegar helps balance acid production in the stomach. Drink between 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons in a glass of water before meals to aid digestion.
