My Morning Routine

January 23, 2019 by Debbie 1 Comment

I love mornings.

I am a morning person and enjoy using my routine to help set the tone for my day.  My routine has changed as my life has changed, but it always gives me a strong start to my day.

Your morning routine will probably look different to mine, but maybe it will give you some ideas to use.

My Simple Morning Routine

1.  Wake up at 5:30 a.m.  I try to always get up quickly, as I find my day starts better than if I snooze for a few minutes.

 2.  Eat breakfast. Breakfast dishes, oatmeal and cereal are set out the night before so this is an easy task first thing in the morning.  Normally the girls wake up and come down as I’m preparing my cup of tea.  I take my daily multi-vitamins at this time.

3.  Shower and get dressed.  Once I have eaten breakfast and the girls are up and eating theirs, I brush my teeth and prepare to have a shower.  I use a body brush all over to exfoliate my skin and improve lymphatic drainage.

After my shower I use a body butter to moisturize my skin.  Then I moisturize my face and get dressed.   I choose my clothes and jewellery the night before and set them out, ready to wear after my shower.

 4.  Get the girls ready for the day.  The girls will have finished eating by the time I am done with my shower, so I help them get ready for the day.  Their outfits will usually have been picked out the night before.  I assist with hairstyling and reminding them of chores that need doing (packing homework and lunches into backpacks, making beds, putting laundry into the basket and placing dirty dishes into the sink).

 5.  Make the bed.  Making the bed instantly makes the room look better and motivates me to continue on making the rest of the house look tidy.  I also open the curtains to let the light in.

 6.  Make-up and Hair.  Now it’s time to do my make-up and dry my hair. This only takes a few minutes.

 7.  Wipe the sink and toilet.  Next I do a quick clean of the toilet bowl with the brush and wipe the sink and counter clean with a cloth.

 8.  Clean the kitchen.  Now it’s downstairs to clean the kitchen.  Cereal is put away in the pantry.  The dishwasher is emptied and dirty dishes are washed.

 9.  Check planner.  At this point I check my planner to see what’s for dinner and take any meat out of the freezer.  If we have any plans for the day, I make sure to put any needed items in my bag before we leave the house.

 10.  Laundry.  If I have time before walking Miss C to school, I put on a load of laundry.  Otherwise this is done when I return home.  I find that washing a load a day keeps the laundry at a manageable level.  I also make sure to finish the process.  I wash, fold and put away a load of laundry every day.

I used to include exercise in my morning routine, but have struggled with this in recent months.  I walk most days as I take Miss C to school and back home again.  If I have enough time before I take my shower, I will lift some weights or do some stretches, but I have not been consistent with this.  Some days I exercise after the girls are in bed, but I don’t like to do this too closely to bedtime.

Now my morning routine is done, I’m ready to start my other chores for the day.

What does your morning routine look like?

This sounds like a great routine! With a 1-year old and a 4-year old, my mornings are often a bit hectic. I look forward to when they are a bit older and we can settle into a more stable routine. Thanks so much for sharing at Sweet Inspiration!
