10 Ways to Drink More Water

January 7, 2013 by Debbie Leave a Comment

We all know we are supposed to drink eight 8oz glasses of water a day, but sometimes that can be a challenge for busy moms.

Here are some tips to help.

Eat water rich foods. Below is a list of fruits and vegetables to try (with their approximate water content).

  • Cucumber – 96%
  • Lettuce – 95%
  • Celery – 95%
  • Tomato – 94%
  • Spinach – 92%
  • Broccoli – 91%
  • Carrots – 87%
  • Watermelon – 92%
  • Strawberries – 92%
  • Grapefruit – 91%
  • Cantaloupe – 90%
  • Peach – 88%
  • Raspberries – 87%
  • Apple – 84%

When you have juice, fill the glass half full of juice and top the rest up with water.

Substitute hot water with a drop of honey for tea or coffee.

Freeze pieces of lemon or orange and use them in place of ice cubes. This is refreshing and also helps you to get in a serving of fruit.

Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning while you are waiting for the kettle to boil for your tea or coffee.

Drink sparkling water if you are trying to avoid pop and miss the bubbles.

Keep a water bottle with you at all times so you can sip from it throughout the day. One way to track your progress is to put eight rubber bands around your bottle. Every time you finish a bottle, remove one of the rubber bands.

Drink a glass of water when you feel hungry, tired or have a headache. Sometimes you are dehydrated and may not realize it.

Remind yourself. Set an alarm (phone / watch / computer) to beep every hour as a reminder to drink a glass of water. This works well when you are working on the computer. Taking a walk to the kitchen stretches your muscles and allows you to take a break from looking at the computer screen.

Keep a water journal. Tracking your water intake will motivate you to drink more. It will soon become second nature.
