Crock Pot Applesauce
- 10 apples peeled, cored and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup sugar, if needed (depending on sweetness of apples used)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Put all ingredients into the crockpot and mix together. Cook on low for 3 – 4 hours. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed. If you like chunky applesauce, leave as is or lightly mash with a potato masher. For smooth applesauce, blend with an immersion blender or blender/food processor.
Apples to use: Macintosh, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady. I used a mixture of Pink Lady and Granny Smith in the applesauce in the photo above.
Variations: Use apple cider or apple juice instead of water. Add lemon or orange peels (remember to remove before blending). Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar for a sweeter applesauce.
To store: Store applesauce in an air-tight container in the fridge for a few weeks (if it lasts that long!) or in the freezer.
