Candy Cane Playdough {Homemade Holiday}

November 26, 2014 by Debbie 4 Comments

Candy Cane Playdough

Christmas is coming and it’s time to start planning any homemade gifts you want to give.

This is a great project for children to help with and makes a fun and inexpensive present.

Candy Cane Playdough

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1/3 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
red food colouring
peppermint extract
silver sprinkles, if desired

Directions:

Put the flour, cream of tartar and salt in a medium saucepan.  Add the water and vegetable oil.  Heat over a medium low heat.  The mixture will start to thicken.  Cook for a couple of minutes, stirring until the dough clumps together and is no longer wet.  Turn out onto wax or parchment paper and leave to cool for a few minutes.  Divide into two.  Add red food colouring and about 5 drops of peppermint extract to one half and knead well to incorporate all the colour.  Add sprinkles and about 5 drops of peppermint extract to the other half and knead together.

Have fun!

    We love to make playdough too. The candy cane colors for Christmas is a great idea.
