Hello friends! Welcome to 2020 and a whole new decade. Is anyone else excited about the possibilities open to us?
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas season and spent time with family and friends. We spent a lot of family time together watching movies, playing games and eating too much rich food.
My Word for 2020
Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about a word for the year, rather than choosing New Year’s Resolutions.
I have settled on “Care” for this year.
I have chosen this word because I want to apply this to every aspect of my life.
Care for Home
I want to take care of my home. Declutter and go through every single item and make sure it is needed, wanted and organized. Part of taking care of my home is keeping to a cleaning schedule and making sure to have time to create a peaceful, cozy home.
Care for Family
Care for my children means spending one on one time together, spending time doing something they enjoy each week. I will also take care with the words I say to my girls, to ensure I build them up and am kind. I will also spend time with my husband nurturing our relationship. I will encourage him to take care of his health and listen to any of his cares and concerns. Care for my family means spending time together bonding over an activity.
Care for Others
I want to include care for others this year. This may mean volunteering at local charities that are important to my family, volunteering at school or taking care of the community by participating in a community clean up.
I will also practice kindness towards others. This may be as simple as holding the door for someone, paying a compliment, writing a thank you note or sending flowers to a friend.
Care of Self
Care of self means taking time to incorporate self-care into every day. This is one I have not been too great at keeping up with in the past. I have good intentions, but have difficulty prioritizing myself above the needs of others.
This year I would like to take care of my body through mindful eating, making sure to exercise in a gentle way, lift my spirit by listening to music that I enjoy and taking time to read every day.

Did you choose a word for the year? I’d love to hear from you.

I love how you have expanded on the different types of Care here, Debbie. What a fantastic word, and ethos, for the year. My word is Growth this year. Last year it was ‘Expand’. I do enjoy the practice of having a word and theme for each year, and find it really helps with my goals. Thank you so much for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party.
Thanks so much for visiting April. It’s my first year to have a word for the year and I’m hoping it helps me to focus more on my goals.
